Rihan lost parents in Rana Plaza collapse

Rihan's parents were both working inside Rana Plaza when it collapsed on 24th April 2013. Rihan's mother, Rehena Begum, worked as a machine operator on the 6th floor while her father was a laundry operator. While her mother's dead body was recovered and identified on the first day, there has been no sign of her father.
Rihan's parents were the primary sources of income in the family. With her mother dead and her father unlikely to be found alive, the responsibility of supporting the family has fallen on Rihan's grandparents. Her grandfather runs a small business which earns a minimal and irregular income. Without any tangible income, Rihan's grandparents worry about how much long they can afford to provide for her.
"We are worried about providing food for Rihan," said her grandfather. "We have reluctantly started giving her supplementary food at six months of age," said Rihan's grandfather.
Save the Children supported Rihan and her family by providing them with some cash for food and other immediate essentials.
The death toll from the Savar building collapse stands at 711 as rescue workers continue to recover bodies from the rubble. So far, about 2,440 people have been rescued.
Overall, Save the Children has set up information desks at the school which serves as a collection point for the bodies of those who have died. The children's aid agency has also gathered information on children affected by the disaster from bedside interviews with injured people and forms an information desk, and provided some limited assistance as required. While few children were directly affected by the disaster, it is clear that - as expected - significant numbers of children will be indirectly affected as a result of the death or incapacity of their parents.
