Manna Dey hospitalised

India's legendary singer Manna Dey has been hospitalized in Bangalore with a severe chest infection, according to a report by Times of India, reports bdnews24.com.
He was being treated at a private nursing home.
The 94-year old legend fell ill a few days ago just when he was preparing to record songs in memory of his wife about 20 days ago.
He has been receiving medical attention at his home in Bangalore's Kalyan Nagar but was moved to a hospital when his condition worsened.
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee visited the veteran singer on his birthday on May 1, presented him with the government's Vishesh Maha-Sangeet Samman and requested him to return to his native West Bengal.
The artists told Banerjee he wants to return to Kolkata despite his failing health to record a few songs in memory of his wife, Sulochona.
Born in 1919 and named Probodh Chandra Dey by his family, the singer became known famous as "Manna" , singing in both Hindi and Bangla for films in both languages .
His "Coffee Houser Sei Adda ta aaj aar nei" was on the lips of almost every Bengali of his generation.
Later he also sang in Gujarati and Marathi and became a living legend.
Manna Dey has received numerous state honours and awards for his invaluable contribution in music.
